Match Report: Storm Maul Mavericks
Mavericks started the game off, but a Storm interception turned the ball around and looked to dominate early on with Storm scoring two for every one Maverick. An error from Trippick, allowed Maverick’s to pull a few goals back, Reid played well with some impressive interceptions and fast drives down court, landing the score 10-4 halfway through quarter one. Play continued in similar fashion with brilliant work at Storm’s defending end, saw Maverick’s running round, a rare miss from Dunn sees quarter one score 19-11 to Storm.
Quarter two saw little to fault with Storm’s performance. A brilliant, fast-paced quarter for Storm, with nine consecutive goals from Dunn and Cookey. Injury time for the Mavericks breaking Storm’s consecutive run, Holland and Reid making brilliant interceptions and Storm playing a much faster game than Mavericks, lends quarter two dominated by the hosts with a score of 42-20 going into half time.
Storm head comfortably into quarter three, with Greenway off for Ainsworth, and Bello replacing Seaton. Changes on the court made little difference to goal difference and some impressive play between Trippick and Dunn taking the score 51-23. Storm’s defence turning the ball round and a perfected shot from Dunn saw the quarter ending 61-33 to Storm.
With the game in the bag, Storm had a change around with Mchale coming on for Cookey, Modeste at WA, Trippick off and Convey replacing Holland. The game saw a change of pace with a slow final quarter. Mavericks taking advantage as the players settle in, picking up some consecutive goals, Dunn moving further up court as Maverick’s defence intercept. The game finished with a clear victory for Storm, 72-49 placing them top of tier one.
